Around the island
Version franaise
Driving around the island can be done in one day. This tour really is
worth it. The island changes very quickly, as the relief and the climate
give birth to a different kind of vegetation, a new countryside as you
drive around.
Visiting Saint-Denis, the capital city, and then the sugar cane crops,
the cultivation of vanilla under the wet sky of the Eastern coast.
Visiting the astonishing catholic church of Sainte-Anne, before reaching
Sainte-Rose then Saint-Philippe and their lava flows.
Going through the Wild South, its beautiful forests of endemic trees,
its ragged capes, and before having a rest on the beach of Saint-Pierre.
Then driving along the Western Coast, dry and sunny, the touristic
coast and its beaches. Finally, to end the loop,
taking the Cliff Road (Route en Corniche), between La Possession and
Saint-Denis, to finish the day on the Barachois.

You can also do "half a tour", passing the Route des Plaines, which
goes through Plaine des Cafres and Plaine des Palmistes.
Close to Plaine des Cafres on the road leading to the volcano,
you will have a beautiful view of the Remparts river from Nez de Boeuf.
